Overview
The Directors of NOCS are community members who advocate for the goals of the association and its members as outlined in the constitution and bylaws. They are volunteers who plan for the future of the organization. Each director has a duty to act honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of the society.
NOCS has 12 Board Directors who are elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting. Each director is elected for a term of 2 years. The NOCS Board steers the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the organization has adequate resources to advance its mission. The activities of the board can be roughly broken into ten roles:
Determine the organization’s mission, purpose and strategies;
Support the Executive Director;
Provide proper financial oversight and governance;
Ensure the organization has adequate resources;
Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability;
Ensure effective organizational planning;
Recruit and orient new board members;
Assess board performance;
Enhance the organization’s public standing; and
Monitor the organization’s programs and services.
What’s Involved
Skills and experiences in any of the following areas is a plus, but not a requirement, and we greatly encourage all interested candidates to apply:
events planning and management
previous board experience
fundraising
grant writing
human resources
governance
marketing
communications (e.g. community presentations, news releases, newsletters, website content)
cycling advocacy
Board Directors are expected to spend an average of 6 - 12 hours per month on NOCS work, including:
preparation for and attending Board meetings (typically held on the first Tuesday of each month in the evening via zoom or in-person)
corresponding by email and voting on motions
fulfilling any action items from Board meetings
fulfilling the specific responsibilities of the Director role and participating on a board committee as required

All candidates must be a current member of NOCS

Board candidates will be vetted and fit determined based on alignment with available board positions, and mutual agreement with the candidate and the board.
Candidates nominated by the board will be put forward for election at the AGM on Thursday, November 16th.
